Martin Tomczyk dominated the German touring car series in 2011, sealing the title in Valencia with a weekend to spare.
The German driver finished in the points in each of the first nine races, taking three wins and four other podiums – a feat all the more impressive as he became the first driver to take the championship in year-old machinery. His title indeed came at the wheel of a 2008-specification Audi A4 DTM.
Tomczyk, who hails from Bavaria and is 1.88m tall, has competed in the DTM for 11 seasons – and over 100 races – since he made his debut in 2001. Well known for his fun-loving nature and practical jokes, his first pole arrived a year later and his first win came at Barcelona in 2006. But it took this year’s switch to older machinery with Team Phoenix to spark his title-winning run.
Tomczyk will be making his first Race Of Champions appearance in 2011. He joins an impressive roll call of tin-top stars to compete at ROC.
